Radar Motors Cowper Street

Hi I have a 1961 Rover P4 which at some point apears to have been sold by Radar Motors of 30/32 Cowper Street Birmingham 19. I guess they were a used car dealer.
Has anyone any recollection of the company or images. Just trying to add to the history file of my car.

hi david looking at this map there was a motor repairs shop in cowper st at 30/32...then look at the photo i have posted which i think must show the motor repair shop on the right but i cant quite make out the name..photo was taken in the 50s..i would say this could be the garage where your car came from as cowper st was only a small street

Thanks Lyn, it looks as though that must be it perhaps prior to Radwar motors! The car was originally purchased in the Wellingborough area and was sold to a chap in Cramlington road Birmingham in 1991 and I bought the car in 2013.
At the moment I'm assuming at sometime in it's life it was worked on or sold by Radwar Motors however the later seems unlikely as the owner trail doesn't support that.
I will continue to dig on the car history side. I also have a 1968 Lotus Elan which had its origin I believe in London and owned by a hairdresser which I have located.....I think.
Again many thanks, if I find out more I'll post an update..

ahh yes david...the image you posted does say citroen dealers and if you zoom in on the photo i posted of the garage in cowper st it does say they are citroen repairs so yes you have a photo of where the car came from...please keep us updated of anything else you may find out and by the way i used to live in cramlington road by strange coinsidence my hubby was a car mechanic but we moved from cramlington in the middle 1970s

My name is John Haines and my father Bill Haines was the owner of ~Radwar Motors Ltd. Initially, they were Birmingham's first Citroen dealers. Bill obtained the Citroen franchise in 1946. In the 1950's the business moved and a new garage was built with showroom, and large workshop. The address 9 Holyhead Road Handsworth Birmingham 21. The business grew and at various times held the franchise for the whole of the old county of Warwickshire including Coventry for the following brands. Citroen, Renault, Peugeot, Simca, Dyna-Panhard, Lancia and Maserati. Every new car of these makes was ordered through Radwar Motors.
I worked for the dealership until 1968 when the site was sold to Murco Petroleum. It is still there on the corner of Holyhead Road and Booth Street!
Bill opened a branch in Wheelwright Lane, Coventry, as previously mentioned. Sadly it went bankrupt.
As a small boy , I remember visiting the workshop in Cowper Street probably late 40's early 50's
Bill retired to live in Spain and died in Denia in1982

Thanks John, It's nice to know the history of the company. My car was registered in Wollaston 1961, so they must have sold it used or maybe just serviced it or repaired it. Cheers David.
