Question: the "Lukes" football?

Hello. I'm writing from Canada, so please excuse my lack of local footie knowledge,

I just discovered a letter by my great grandfather who was living in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in July 1912. Writing to a friend in Cradley Heath he says "I suppose the football season will be on the move again soon and I wish the "Lukes" every success. I shall be interested as usual in watching their progress, and also that of the Albion."

I'm curious about these teams. I presume Albion is Birmingham Albion FC; is that most likely right? Who might the "Lukes" be?

Thank you and happy Christmas!

I think Janice would be right, “the Albion” most likely refers to West Bromwich Albion. Less likely Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Black Country connection could therefore be to the Football Combination team Cradley Heath St. Luke’s.

Thank you both so much.

Now that I've looked up where West Bromwich Albion plays - and has played since 1900 - it makes good sense that they would be "the Albion" in question.

Does Cradley Heath St. Luke’s still exist in some form?
