Purchase of Electoral Rolls ? and/or Kelly's ?.

I have seem frequent references to Electoral Rolls on this web site and it seems clear that some people have access to the rolls, probably via purchased copies. Can someone give me the clues as to where you can get them and how much do they cost ? I would also be interested in any information that can be supplied that would explain what "Kelly's" listings are, how are they different to the electoral rolls ?

if you go to "midlandshistoricaldata.org" this is where you can access the electoral rolls and kellys. you can either buy credits to view or take out a subscription. my yearly subscription cost me £120

the electoral rolls are mostly from about 1912 - 1955 although women werent listed till, i think, 1920, and only people over 21 would be listed anyway. they are searchable by address or name.

kellys are directories of residents in every street, plus searchable by trade. they are from 1872 - 1973/4. there are other directories to search for earlier years, such as wrightsons directories which go back to about 1815. hope this helps a bit.

Electoral Rolls/ registers females were able to vote in 1918, but had to be over the age of 30 years.
This was lowered to 21 years for all in 1928.
Often this can catch you out knowing that your female relative is married but unable to find on register, then it dawns on you she is under 30 years of age .
The 1918 Register gives details of WW1 regiment details ( Absent Voters list )
