Can anyone have a guess at the date of this picture from the clothes.

A relative sent it to me and it is supposed to be an ancestor of mine Doreen Muriel Pryce sitting on the donkey with her mother holding the reigns. However, Doreen was born in1900 in Birmingham and I think the clothes look more like late 1920s and that would mean Doreen was more likely to be the one holding the reigns. Pity the poor boy holding the donkey!

Trouble is I can't find any reference to her and her husband Doreen M Pryce m. Reginald A Fisher 4q 1928 Bournemouth ref 2b 1725 having had any children.

They moved from Birmingham to open a boarding house in Bournemouth.

I agree so now I need to know did Doreen Muriel Fisher (nee Pryce) have any chidlren? She married in 1928 so this could be her daughter?

No nada, so maybe it was just an unknown child or another relative. Oh and hallo Icarus!

Hiya Darr :)

I've been looking at this couple again, using wildcard searches for possible offspring. This family history pastime can be very frustrating at times, compounded by the idiosyncrasies of search engines.

Still have not found any Fisher/Pryce kids (wonder if they started the toy business :D), so I searched for Pryce/Pryce (no father) records. Ancestry gave zero results but FreeBMD came back with dozens! Anyway, there were 2 Pryce/Pryce kids reg'd in Kings Norton 1919 and 1920... too close to be the same mother. Both were boys though (Albert & Desmond) and your photo shows a girl (?). In those days, such an event may have precipitated the move down south. Just a suggestion.

BTW... As you know, Doreen M was not at home in 1911. I found a Doreen M Pryce (the only one) age 10 in an institution - could be hospital - in Wandsworth.

Ah, a possibility re the hospital as there were members of the family that had TB...I don't suppose it says the name of the hospital? Must have been a specialist one or why not stay in Birmingham?

As far as illegitimate children goes, surely someone in the family would know about this? Also I think they moved down to Bournemouth quite a long time after this, although 28 is quite late to marry in those days. I am gooing to contact the Bournemouth library who run a service to see if I can ID an exact address.

No toys connection or we would be very rich! Ha ha! I appreciate all your excellent detective work anyway.
