Post office is really in a mess

You've all heard, I expect the song "A pub with no beer". Well Yesterday and today I experienced a post office with no stamps (Well no books of 2nd class stamps, though they did have packets of 50) None yesterday and none today. Suppose it is because of running out before the price rise, but I do think they could have made allowance for that. I know you can get them at supermarkets (unless they too have run out), but even so........
 
Their parcel delivery times are a joke as well.
Twice recently I have had a time slot for the morning. So stayed in only to have the slot suddenly moved to afternoon. One eventually came at 6.45pm.
Today it was the opposite - slot was 10.50 to 14.50. Postman knocked the door at 10.10.
Other firms manage it so why can't Royal Mail?

They have been "holding on to" the mail to concentrate on parcels...this as well as not paying anything to the Post Office scandal victims I can see them going Bust.

Janice it does'nt say anything about these hiccups on those monstrous artic lorries that proclaims on the sides 16 million parcels delivered what ever year it was . They did'nt put the times they were delivered though haha
 
well it was not that long ago that we used to have 2 letter box deliveries a day...some are not even getting 1 a day now..also the pillar box at the top of my road has been out of action for weeks now and i have no idea why.. some of us cant walk miles to the next one to post a letter...must try and find out why :rolleyes:

The plan box outside our nearby post office (in the local One Stop shop) was out of order for a while.
Now you can still pop letters in but it also takes small parcels.
No idea how it works

Yes, I've seen some of those in London!
I think you can also print off some proof or something, I wouldn't be very confident to use one, rather go into a Post Office!
 
In a way I'm glad that other people have noticed Royal Mail holding on to letter post. So it's not just in Redditch.
We get no post for several days, don't see the postman, then a load all together. I can't believe that no one in our close had no post. How can they get away with it, charging extra for first class then doing this?
When I want to order something on say, Amazon or eBay and see they used Royal Mail, it puts me off.
 
Parcel post sseems to be OK. The van delivers in our road daily. Had a parcel at 7pm the other night.
The only thing that annoys me is you get a message saying "delivery 10.45 to 13.45" so you are there ready but when you check it has changed "delivery 16:15 to 19.15". No other company changes the delivery slot as far as I know.
Other post seems to vary depending on where it is posed. I find it is most reliable if yu are able to post at a post office (or box outside).
 
Yes, RM certainly prioritise parcel deliveries, it's probably more profitable. As pjmburns says, their tracking isn't as good as others like Evri. I've had parcels shown as stuck at the Birmingham mail centre for a couple of days when it was supposed to be a 48 hr service.
 
They spent £2M changing the name to Consignia in 2001, who remembers that? Do remember that Post Office is a separate company from Royal Mail.
 
i was in shock the other day...i posted 2 birthday cards last friday birthday not until the 12th but wanted to make sure they arrived in time...in the past i have had cards go missing...anyway they were delivered the next day on sat...:D

I too had a very positive experience today. Went into my local Co-op for milk and they have one of those POs in the shop. It was lunchtime and the PO section was closed. But if its closed, you can still do PO business at the Co-op till. Got chatting to the Co-op Manager and she was telling me that the PO service is open from 7.00 am until 10.00 pm at night, Monday to Sunday ! The manager manages both the shop and the PO. How's that for service ? Astounding.
 
One of our small local shops has PO and it is open Sunday as well. Not sure if post goes on a Sunday but useful as much easier to park then than in the week.
 
I remember the Consignia farce. I hope whatever Idiot thought that up left very quickly.
Yes, the Post Office is quite separate to Royal Mail fortunately. Our local Post Office in a convenience store does an excellent job and the ladies in there extremely efficient and pleasant. I use it whenever I can in the hope that it stays open. They are also a pick up and drop off point for Evri, one of Royal Mail's competitors.
I was also pleased recently to realise that the Post Office counter dispenses cash from credit or debit cards like an ATM. There is an ATM outside but I shall go inside for my cash now as it's much safer. The more services we use the more likely it is to stay open.
