Hi, I am new to this site. My grandmother was Sarah Poole born 1896 Birmingham. All I know is that she grew up in an orphanage and trained as a nursemaid. She came to Canada in 1919 and married my grandfather. I have not been able to find a birth certificate at the BMD website for her. In 1940 she wrote away to obtain one and I have just realized from all my research that they gave her the wrong one! Is it possible that the birth wasn't registered? Thanks

Hi,
Is this your Sarah?

SARAH EDITH POOLE b. June 1896 Birmingham 6d 168.

Found on FreeBMD

if that is your sarah this is she in 1901

william poole 27 driver health dept.(promising?) b. stratford on avon

angelina 29 b. bearley warks

sarah e 5 b. bham

amelia c 3 b. bham all living bacchus rd. bham

perhaps the parents died so they went into an orphanage.

Hi, Thanks, but, no she isn't Sarah Edith Poole. I had thought for years that was her. I know now it isn't because my Sarah was not living with her parents in 1911.

I would like to find the marriage entry for that Sarah Edith Poole though if it exists. Can't seem to locate it on the BMD website.

I believe that my Sarah Poole had 2 brothers, William born about 1892 and Alfred born 1898. William and Alfred were boarded out in 1901 to a family and Sarah to another. I have found them in the 1901 census.

i presume this is her

sarah e poole 1919 jul-sep aston to either frederick h heynes or alfred smith

There seems to be two threads running on this particular topic.. could it please be merged into one thread as it is getting rather confusing.

Sorry!! I don't mean to cause confusion. I had read that if you are looking for birth certificates to post a query in surname interests.

Hi

I have looked at family tree on Poole side and can not find a Sarah, sorry.

However there is a cousin who is a Poole that has done a lot of research. I will contact him and pass on your details if that is ok with you.
you never know where it may lead.

regards Terry

Hi im also new to this site.I saw your querery about sarah poole.I also have sarah poole in my family born 1890 B,ham.Parents Charles William and he was born in Warwick.Although i dont know of this person going to Canada.I do have two aunties of my mother who emigrated in 1925 surnames Fieldhouse, and Savage or Horwill.Do you have any sites you recomend i could use to try and trace them.We know they resided in Halifax for some years.

Hi Casey,
You can try going to novascotiagenealogy.com for BMD records and collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/index-e.html for immigration records for around that time.

I did a quick look on the first site and there are a couple of Horwills, Savage is also a popular name in NS. Did they remain in Halifax?
