PITCH, Nicholas 1810-1842

Gun Barrel Borer. Died age 32 at the back of 77 Bagot Street. Apparently the son of John PITCH, a sailor. I have his 1838 marriage but can't get back further. Anyone seen this name anywhere?

there is a tree on ancestry that suggests john pitch was born in 1774 in norfolk and died in 1859 in norfolk aged 85...looking at available records it would be difficult to get further back than that as it would mean relying on parish records..i take it you have seen the marriage certificate for nicholas pitch to sarah jones which is on ancestry?..sorry cant be of anymore help

Oh thanks for replying! Yes, I've looked at that Norfolk family - their surname was actually PILCH, not PITCH - a family of tailors and dressmakers - 160 miles the other side of England.... all those PILCH children were born/baptised in Norfolk.... except the mysterious 'Nicholas' who has no baptismal rec I can find, ANYWHERE! He may have been illegitimate and parroted to the vicar, whatever he'd been told growing up, when he married Sarah JONES. I've pretty much exhausted all the records on Ancestry, MyHeritage and FindMyPast - forums like this are the only place where someone might just remember their grandad/gran mentioning something about a Pitch they recall. I appreciate your response - which IS helpful, because it tells me you too have reached the same brick wall, so it's likely I haven't missed something obvious! Cheers
