Mike Pinder, who was an original member of the "Moody Blues", was from Erdington. Brilliant musician and inventor of the famous Mellotron. He might be a relative. He can be searched on Google.

In the early twentieth century there was an actor and singer called Powis Pinder. In his later years he ran a concert party at Shanklin on the Isle of Wight called "Sunshine". In the early thirties well-known performers such as Arthur Askey, Bernard Lee and Webster Booth appeared there. By this stage Mr Pinder was referred to as "Papa" Pinder.

Mike didn't invent the Mellotron, but did briefly work for the company who made it. It was invented by the Bradley brothers with close attention to an American instrument called the Chamberlin. The Mellotron was built near Birmingham in Streetly near Sutton Coldfield, and Streetly Electronics, now based in Blithbury, Staffs. still make new machines to order. They are wonderful sounding instruments.

Take a listen to the aptly named " The Brummagem Fly" by local band Sundae Club to hear a more up to date use of the Mellotron!

My name is Lee Pinder and My father is Reg Pinder and my uncle is Mike Pinder. My father worked with my Uncle on Melletron development and we lived in the south of England and then California during the Moodies period. The Reg Pinder family now live in Sydney Australia.

Our family tree is definately Birmingham (Aston Manor, Lozells and Nechells) from about 1860 when Robert and Hannah moved from Leicester. These are my Great Greats.

Their children included Augustus Arthur, Elizabeth, Herbert, Walter, Alfred, Frank and Bertram (Reg and Mike's Grandfather and my Great G). All were born between 1870s and 1880s. They come from a long line of building/ house painters going back to the early 1700s in Leicester. The Pinders of this tree are also Freemen of Leicester and Town Criers.

I have built the family tree on Ancestry.

If you have any details you would like to email regarding Ancestors give me a few names and I may be able to help.
