Photo of the Villa squad 1879 - 1880

I don't know if it is, but somebody will on this Forum, but a great photo Lee.

But the league started in 1888.
The Football League was not established till 1888. The members in the first season (1888 - 89) were Notts County, Preston North End, Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, West Bromwich Albion, Accrington Stanley, Everton, Burnley, Derby County and Stoke City.

All these clubs were presumably already in existence when the League was founded. Previously, they would probably have played in local leagues or would have arranged friendly matches from time to time.

Baron, Your very observant, but did you notice that the President was a Mr Ellis! and what of the shirts? appears to be more Girly Pink than Powder Blue. Wonder what that team would of made of the Wittonites win over the Mighty Ajax last night? How about this for a headline VIM Overcomes AJAX...gerrit Vim...AJAX?... Oh I'll fetch me coat.
