Hello Adele
I may be wrong, but I thought you could access Parish Records on line from Family Search.org which I thought held most if not all the parish records throughout the country. It is a free search, and you just need to enter name district and approx. dates. Just follow what it asks really. Little info is more beneficial I always find.

Hi Lynda
thanks for that, i have tried lots of relatives on that site many come up but not all.
It seems they have big holes in notes that are available, maybe im searching incorrectly.
thanks again

Other places that you could look for parish records are Genfair for area CDs,the county Family History Society or Find My Past.

I have used Family Search extensively but not all records have been transcribed onto that site. A good parish records CD provides so much more detail and on occasion the annotations can be quite funny. I'll look out examples.
If you post the areas that you think your family were connected with, perhaps members will have relevant CDs & can look names up for you. That said, there are gaps in surviving records or, as in the case of Dudley, print is so faded as to be unreadable.

Parish record annotations that I came across this week:
"This child was not a daughter but a son & was baptised by the name of Alfred."
"The name of James Shaylor as father was deleted in his presence."

A bit confused by your thread, what connection do you have to James Shaylor or is it just an interest that you have in Parish Records, my grandfathers name was James Shaylor and the area he lived/worked was Digbeth/Deritend.
All the best
libby
