To continue my family history research i now need to delve into the new world, well at least for me, of parish registers.

Would a subscription to Ancestry be the best way forward or is there a
better way?

Any thoughts anyone?

thanks
Neville..

Have you not tried familysearch.org which is a free site? I've never used Ancestry for Parish Records as the family search has always been adequate. Others may think differently though.
All the best

Having caught one more than once I nolonger trust LDS Family Search, indeed I trust nobody's research but my own so I double check everything I read on the net!

For me, nothing beats visiting the record office that holds the parish records for the parish you are researching and either looking at the originals or the films of the originals

What parishes are you researching?
Helen

Hello Helen,

Yes ideally i would like to visit the area holding the parish registers
but its not always a practicable proposition, not having my own
transport.

At the moment i am interested in Kirk Hammerton, Yorkshire.

Two marriages in particular:
Michael Freeman b1780 in KH marriage to Jane Bateman b c1780 also KH.

Thomas Freeman b1809 in KH marriage to Elizabeth Leek/Leake? also KH.

any help would be much appreciated

thanks Neville...

hi neville,

there is someone on ancestry with your family in their tree.

they have michael freeman 1781-1845 and jane bateman 1781.

they dont have the marriage but do have 2 generations further back on jane batemans side. they also have 9 children of the couple listed.
if you would like this info i can post it for you

Hi Shera,

What can i say, but yes please, and many thanks you've made my day.

regards Neville..

of course i cant guarantee it is correct but here are the details from the tree on ancestry.
michael and jane freemans children. john 1805, thomas 1809, george 1811, charles 1814-1853, william 1821, ann 1821, mary 1826, joseph 1826 and james 1838.

jane batemans father is john bateman b. 1744 KH died 1820 yorkshire
mother is ann calvert b. 1744 KH died 1808 KH yorks.

they were married 16 sep 1755 (think this should read 1775) KH yorks. and had 7 children

thomas bateman 1776, james 1780-1830, jane 1781-1859, michael 1781-1845, thomas 1784, john 1785 and william 1788.

ann calverts father was james r calvert b. 1705 KH yorks. died 13 dec 1747
mother was isabel kendrew b. 1708 in KH yorks.
marriage 2 mar 1729 KH yorks.
these have 4 children listed.
dorothy 1731-1781, william 1734, james 1739-1779 and ann 1744-1808

thats the lot. some of the childrens dobs are the same but that might have been when they were christened and not the d.o.b.

as i said i dont know if its right, but worth taking note of anyway :)

Thanks Shera must get myself onto Ancestry one of these days.

Still hoping the relevant marriage details will turn up somewhere
but you've given me plenty of other information.

regards Neville..

Is there a way of establishing whether the village of Kirk Hammerton,
near Knaresborough in the West Riding of Yorkshire can be found on
Ancestry full version?

I can't find parish records on the Ancestry library edition and wondered
whether the full version would contain it.

If it does not, it looks like a trip oop North for me...

thank you
Neville..
