Hi Ludlowlad
I am a direct descendant of the Ward End Pardoe’s; my great grandfather Herbert was born in Ludlow, and moved to Birmingham with his brother John, who live in the house next door.
Herbert was married to Martha Martin and they had about 15 children. They lived for a short item in Cleobury Mortimer 8 New Road before moving to Birmingham.
One of the more famous Pardoe’s was Tommy the boxer, who won the amateur flyweight championship of Britain 20 March 1920 and defended the title a further five time. Tommy also represented Great Britain in the 1932 Olympic game, winning a bronze medal.
Herbert Pardoe was an entrepreneur, he had a sand pit on his land in Ward End and sold sand to Walsall Council. He also converted old busses into caravans for holidays.
I have traced about 94 Pardoe’s, and I know there are still Pardoe’s in Ludlow, however I only work on the family tree on a casual basis.
