Adoption cert is NOT the same as the adoption papers referred to by Lyn in post #22.
The cert is simply a reissue of a birth cert naming the adoptive parents
The papers are all the papers connected with the adoption and should be with the local authority who oversaw the adoption.
As you will see, it states Darlaston Juvenile Court which I can find no record of itself and I heard that the files from there to somewhere else and there was a fire and a percentage of those were involved in a fire but if anyone can clarify?

think the only way to get these questions answered is to apply for the adoption papers ..they will give the mothers name and possibly even the fathers...and also the circumstances as to why the adoption occured...

Would it be better for my mom/Freda's daughter to apply? How would I go about getting this done?

hi job....your mom would be fine to apply as she would be next of kin to freda but equally so could you apply...having had some experience of this within my own family if you do opt for accessing fredas adoption files it could take some time so patience is needed although having said that as freda is deceased it may be a little quicker...

i have had a look around and maybe you could start by phoning up the below number..explain what it is you want giving names and when and where the adoption took place...if they cant help you they should be able to give you the details of who to contact..

I wonder if it's more than coincidence that the marriage reg. for Freda's possible mother was the same quarter of 1936 as the adoption?
Can you explain what you mean regarding marriage reg. for Freda' possible mother and same quarter lol I haven't been on here for quite some time up until recently and just as clueless lol

You previously mentioned that Freda thought her mother may have been Louisa Brassington Smith and she married a Harry J Gilbert. This marriage was registered in the Jun qtr of 1936 which would have been the same quarter as Freda's adoption.

I was speculating whether Freda being adopted was related to her mother's marriage, if indeed Louisa is Freda's mother, or was it just a coincidence.

thanks mark found it now i was looking in birmingham..

as i have said before unless job is prepared to buy that marriage cert (if only to discount it) and obtain the adoption records this one will have to remain a mystery..as we all know sometimes we just have to take a punt on things..guess work is no good

I think the birth cert of Freda smith might be interesting but it can only be bought as a full cert. The occasional copy A indicates the cert was reissued (possibly after adoption).
