It was indeed Pete, half a day to tax a car, if you were lucky to have the right forms, stand in the right queues and have the right money……

It's the Ikon Gallery now, I think it's great that the building has survived and been put to good use.

I have a photo of my Grandad Thomas Tatlow standing on a AFS Fordson outside the building shown at the start of this thread. He’s on top row middle. The building was a car showroom Reve and Stedeford. It was taken over and used as a fire station during the war.
