I have this on dvd, it lists all private residents and all tradespeople for that year, and all streets.
Also some wonderful trades adverts.
If any one would like me to do a search for any thing I will gladly do so, alternatively you can purchase at www.GenealogyJunction.com

Hello John,

Could you please have a look for a John Cattell/Cattle for me? On the 51 cencus he is a Refiner (but doesn't say what of) and he was living in Homer Street, which is Balsall Heath (Kings Norton district then). I can't find him on the 61 Cencus, and he died in 1869. I'd be interested to see where he was living in 1867. He may not be in the Directory, but if you could have a look, I'd be very grateful.

Ann

John,

Thank you for taking the trouble to look for me.
All the best
Ann

John Could you look up in your 1867 Directory the address of George Milner? He was at Great Colmore St in 1851, at 26 Stoke St in 1862 and 1 Williams St, Lower Trinty in 1870 but it would be good to locate him in 1867 too. He was a saw maker and later a retail brewer. Many thanks.

Thank you for your kind thought, Baron. I have tried the site before but have never found anyone relevant as the search engine is so poor.

Is this your GEORGE MILNER Beer Retailer,Lower Trinitl Street, Bham; 1867.
Found in POST OFFICE DIRECTORY OF BIRMINGHAM Page 235.

Morning,
I have searched my directory and there are only 3 Milners in it, 2 ladies and a Thomas-gun maker'
Don't know what directory Baron was looking at, but it's entirely differant from mine.
Sorry I can't be of further help.
regards John.

I have a fully comprensive library of Birmingham Directory's in excess of 40+ there is a list on site.
please bear in mind it is not a census as not all residents are listed only those that subscribed, I have a few volumes that are not on the list.
I now have twelve volumes in my personal Library from 1896 to 1974 with gaps in between which in some cases are covered by disc.
you only have to ask.
John H
if any one as a Kelly's to sell I will buy

Thank you both, John Knight and John Houghton, for your kind and prompt support. It is good to know there is so much help available. Having gleaned information from census, bmds, electoral registers and National Archive WW1 records I am keen to fill in the gaps. I will be asking questions about other years but I want to avoid clogging up Birmingham History Forum so am pacing my requests!

My thanks to all of you who offer help. It is reassuring to know there is help at hand when needed.

John it's all about availability I have paid different prices in year range Rod and myself bought several volumes @ £35 each now they are worth a bit more, 1800' can be as much as a £1000 early 1900's up to £300 my collection would cost quite a bit to replace and that would be down to if they were available.
I don't drink and don't smoke but I am addicted to Kelly's LOL :D

another thing that effects the price if they have the original maps some of mine have which effected the price I had to pay

Hi John Knight, the page I found that entry for G Milner was page 235 & this is the full page from the POST OFFICE DIRECTORY OF BIRMINGHAM 1867.

Hello Baron,
Yes I have that on dvd, but yours is entirely different from mine for some unknown reason.
I will post a pic of my page 235.

Baron,
I must be going round the twist, mine is the same as yours, but I only saw the 3 Milners down the left side of the page and never went no further, they don't go in
alphabetical order.
Well I suppose that's what comes of old age.
Regards John Knight.
