does anyone know of the old wharf house, bristol road as i have a richard chinn, coal merchant in 1849 at that adress.. i know of gas street basin and wondered if it was there
 
I think that Richard Chinn had his business at the Old Wharf, but lived in Bristol Road with wife Caroline - as shown on the 1841 census.
 
Judging by the 1845 & 1849 directories Chinn was in the end house of Worcester Terrace (this terrace being of large houses, not like the Victorian terraces that came later. Worcester Terrace consisted of five houses, the first five on the east side of Bristol road coming out of town. But I feel that they may have been rebuilt or considerably altered before the c1889 OS map, as this shows a set of three and then two.In the directories chinn seemed to be in the end one farthest from the city centre
