Old Walsall Road Hamstead 1890

Re: picture from MOSSG, I am almost sure it is Langdale Road, the off licence would have been behind the photographer and to the right and to the left would be Kirkstone Crescent. The slag heaps were cleared later to make way for the construction of the "Geordie" estate (as it became known) to house the miners from Peterlee and surrounding areas. If my memory serves me correctly, the miners moved here in 1962 or 1963. I remember being at Hamstead junior school when there was a sudden influx of children who spoke differently to us.

Yes that is Langdale Rd - my Aunties House (the Clinton family) is the one at the end of the terrace right in the middle of the photo - the construction workers from the emerging Geordie Estate used to pop across to her house for water to brew up with. As a child, my mom (Vinal family) used to live in Back Row, Hampstead
