Old street pics..

this is the one i was talking about....just a solitary figure walking down an entry maybe coming home from the pub..looks like a ciggie box thrown on the floor..cant explain why this one fascinates me either...

entry leading to granville st...ladywood..

The residents who used this entry, formed some form of action
group, this was because of the width of the entry and it being the only access / exit poin. With a raging fire you would'nt stand a chance of getting out in a panic . There is another photo on here showing the residents after a meeting with the authorities for rehousing .

Lyn you can see the other end of that mysterious entry in the first of the photos here , I doubt it will have the same appeal

Right how about a peek of some of the hostelries on Great Hampton Street, I know there was more than this but we don't want to turn this thread into another about pubs. as much as we all enjoy them. I'm sure most recognise these pubs, but for those that dont just open the thumbnail photo and the name will be at the bottom of the photo.lanlys I o

Sad to say I only used the Lord Clifden in the 70/80's and think I that's been closed now

Similar memories different cinema, ours was the Bristol cinema off Lee Bank Bristol rd Edgbaston, my brother and I every Saturday morning, we are the Oveltinies little girls and boys, Flash Gorden, a Cartoon good atmosphere, on the way back we bought a frozen jubbely and meandered back home. Found in Google a picture of the Bristol cinema, looking at now it was pretty impressive, at least buildings had character back then, instead of a square box, good memories the Saturday matinee.
The Bristol was our local cinema and those Saturday morning shows were a must for me and my 2 brothers.
The program started with some character up front egging different sections of the mass of steaming kids in some form of competition which majored on volume.
The winners got a hand out of trebor fruits.
And the task was to infiltrate the winning section for a crafty feast.
The program was as stated and loads beyond, wasn't Zoro in there or was that a later TV thing.
Thing I vividly recall was teaming out of the cinema, gaberdine Mack's tied round your neck held in place by the top button and flowing behind you like a cape.
The faster you ran the more the cape flew out.
The other feature was the violent whipping of your own ass simulating the cowboys attempts to urge their horses to cut them off at the pass.
Happy days, easy pleased by today's standards.
Never knew what the word bored meant till my own kids were ruling the roost.
Keep on posting we diminish by the week.
