Lyn I don''t know whether you are aware the people in the Granville St pic above are the residents ath the top of that entry in pic 423 my mates Mother is the woman in the black and white coat, there are a couple of women that lived in Granville St and never lived up that entry . I suppose they just got in the pic to make the numbers up

Holliday Passage runs between Commercial Street and Holliday Street Lee Bank

Just noticed this pic , I've walked up and down there as a kid umpteen times . I had a bit of an accident on a bike at this end of Holliday Passage on the two sets of steps there . I was on a bike at the time decided to go down on the steps on the bike, needless to say the family jewels ended up between the rear brake blocks . Ouch

Seeing the photo of the old square from 1969 brought back memories, especially with the gaumont cinema visible. I first saw the sound of music there with my mum.

Interesting photo, pit we can't see what the full title of the cigar guy was. Also the boy on the old pram seems to be in front of a shop or former shop. Here also the sign is obscured The For Sale sign looks, unusually high up on the wall..

I wonder if this is the right location? There is a St Martin's Place off Broad Street somewhere near Cambridge Street.

Where is Rea St west.? 24 Rea St is the Anchor pub, still there, so not Rea St itself definitely. I cannot fit the picture with the buildings on the c1889 map below. Most on one side have gardens, and other side does not seem to fit. However I have another copy of the photo which states "St Martins Place, the passage on the left led down to the canal and gas st basin" The 1839 map below shows St Martins Place and Row being together and named St Martins Place, so the sign on the photo may refer to when it was named that, but actually be part of the west side of St martins row, which would fit with the description , the opening possibly being where the red arrow points

That's Rocky Lane, corner of Scholefield Street, Anthony's sweet shop on corner, just round the bend on left, Hughes paper shop and straight in front Nechells Green and the Beehive pub.

Notice the oval court sign, and I've never heard of Jacks tea.

I could not find a 'Rea Street West' but it looks like Mike probably has the correct location on the maps in post#5344.
The oval court plate looks like 'Court 3' to me and I had wondered about 'Jacks Tea' and whether the Lime Juice they advertise was fresh ...

There are many adverts that contain the address St Martin’s Place, Broad Street. This is from 1860 but the address extends into at least the 1950s.

I often notice the worn front door steps and wonder how many years of folks stepping on them would wear them like that. Perhaps they used cheap soft sandstone or similar. Have a look at the door step in the post link below ...
