Lyn's 1955 Dale End photo is interesting. I thought this was always a road with a dead end. But there seems to be a way through for traffic, and possibly as a consequence, it's more bustling than in later years. Viv.

hi eric cant say spot on but ive prob got about 4000 plus in my files most of which i posted on the forum before we were hacked...i get them from various sources..old brummagem mags and books..other collectors send me pics as well and also carl chinns archives with his permission..to tell the truth my files really need another tidy up..most annoying when i know i have a certain pic but cant find it lol..

Loved all those Lyn. Especially the deliberate mistake!! High Steet showing the News Theatre is a great photo that and reminded of the times my Dad used to take me in there for him to watch the newsreel and me the cartoons when we were in town. I also worked as a temp briefly at a solicitor's office above the shops on the opposite corner with Dale End not long after this photo was taken. The Hockley Brook one, which I have seen before, is a scene I am very familiar with.

hi judy...i thought of you with the soho road cinema pic...i am hoping to get some more sorted out for the weekend...

hello - great pictures. Just wondered if anyone has any pics of burlington st where I lived in the early to mid sixties.
Tom

ON the corner of the Dale End pic I can see the RAF sign on the 1st floor, I think that is where I joined the RAF in June 1948, almost 64 years ago !! Eric

Lyn (post 216) you must have a very good filing system for a collection that large, most of them appear to be about 1950's/60's the time I like. Eric

hi tom ive got this one showing burlington st school..

ahh yes eric i can now see the RAF sign in that pic...to be honest i do have a filing sytem of sorts but i also rely a lot on my memory which without sounding big headed is very good....if someone asks me if i have a pic of a street or pub i usually know without looking if i have one...its just that i cant always remember what files they are in lol..

Yes Lyn, my old stomping ground as a teenager - The Regal. Sad to think it has all gone now - I think there is a Lidl store on the site now - such a shame.

Judy

by the way lyn - the pic you posted earlier of the horse drawn transport was taken outside the house where we lived in the seventies - this was opposite farm rd sparkbrook. The large building was a school, now gone. Ive also seen somewhere a pic of the same spot facing the other way showing a tram.

its very sad judy...im fed up now of how many times ive said about how many buildings brum has lost..

sorry lyn it was posted by stitcher post 196. I know about the burlington st reunions from other forums over the years. was there any date with the pic you posted ?

Great photo's Lyn, thanks for showing dear old Weoley castle, and the Monument Road, another old stamping ground for me.
paul

the pic was taken around the middle to late 60s tom. it was originally posted by ray griffiths a couple of years back along with well over another 100 aston and lozells pics..unfortunately when this forum was hacked a few months back we lost all of our images...i saved all rays pics so i am thinking of starting a new thread and i will repost them all back onto the forum..i know ray wont mind me doing this...

yes lyn - I was shocked to read about the hacking, when I discovered this site a few months ago - unusual to say the least. I shall look forward to any more of your postings. I've a couple of pics of burlington st obtained from the library archives a few years ago which I'll post in the next few days.
thanks tom

glad you like them topsy and paul...

tom i shall look forward to seeing your burlington st pics and if you come across any of parliament st we would love to see them as they are virtually none existant...very hard to find...will make a start on the aston and lozells pics tomorrow..
