Hi Alf,
What great memories, all heroes to me. What a great servant Stan Lynn was to both our clubs, when he took the first penalty for us at St Andrews he nearly burst the net, at least that what it seemed to me, a callow youth! Although our defence was steady, the forwards impressed me the most.
Bertie Auld - I remember him jumping on Johny Haynes' back at a night match against Fulham. He could be a bit fiery!
Ken Leek - a sweet left foot and a great header.
Jimmy Harris - A tireless runner and harrier of defences.
Jimmy Bloomfied - When we signed him from Arsenal I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. A very cultured player (unusual for us I hear you say).
Mike Hellawell - The flying Welshman who could skin most of the full backs.
Still, for all that class it didn't stop us finishing down in 20th. :-(
I think you were 15th. But of course the highlight of the year was:-
"Birmingham City win the 1963 Football League Cup by beating Aston Villa 3-1 at St Andrews and securing a 0-0 draw at Villa Park four days later."
