Hi Alf,

What great memories, all heroes to me. What a great servant Stan Lynn was to both our clubs, when he took the first penalty for us at St Andrews he nearly burst the net, at least that what it seemed to me, a callow youth! Although our defence was steady, the forwards impressed me the most.
Bertie Auld - I remember him jumping on Johny Haynes' back at a night match against Fulham. He could be a bit fiery!
Ken Leek - a sweet left foot and a great header.
Jimmy Harris - A tireless runner and harrier of defences.
Jimmy Bloomfied - When we signed him from Arsenal I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. A very cultured player (unusual for us I hear you say).
Mike Hellawell - The flying Welshman who could skin most of the full backs.

Still, for all that class it didn't stop us finishing down in 20th. :-(
I think you were 15th. But of course the highlight of the year was:-
"Birmingham City win the 1963 Football League Cup by beating Aston Villa 3-1 at St Andrews and securing a 0-0 draw at Villa Park four days later."

I still have an old suitcase full of Blues programmes etc., up in my loft, dating back to the 1964 season. Wouldn,t part with it for love nor money. The times my wife has referred to throwing it out ! But I think she understands that if she wants to carry on breathing, then she doesn,t go anywhere near it. Barry.

Similar to you David, Ive trailed mine from one place to another, and even here to Scotland. Barry.

Was that the Ken Leek who was dropped on the eve of a FA Cup Final, David I felt so sorry for him.

It wasn't Birmingham

Not sure Alf, we didn't get him until 1961 and as you knoiw our last FA Cup Final was in 1956 :-(
Was he playing for Leicester at the time? He left them in 1961 and went to us via Newcastle and Montreal.

Cheers Alf, I'll try to get some of my old programmes on as soon as I've waded through other "interesting" stuff I've found in the loft!
