Obits...

kaz

master brummie
Hi,

So would it common practice for family to place death notices/obits in the paper...or is this a more recent thing?

I'm thinking of family members who died in 1945,1959 and 1968

Thanks:)

I have lots of obituaries from around this time and a lot earlier, it was more common around this time than now. You have to remember not all families had phones so it was one way of letting friends and family know of a death. Some obituaries would also be posted in papers where someone had lived before.

Thanks Wendy..

If i may then ask - This family were all buried (family grave) in Yardley- years as in my firstpost . Do you know which newspaper i should start with?
They were in Bracebridge st in the late 30's - not sure of their whereabouts after that.....

The Evening Dispatch might also be a good one, it was more usual than the Post in ordinary households.
