Northfield triple murder

tali

master brummie
Can't find any online info on unsolved triple murder iirc in Northfield , elderly couple and disabled son @20 years ago
Thanks

HI TALI
Yes i remember that murder incident up at northfield and you are quite right
there was no on line info; for that family and i beleive its still never been resolved
i wonder if the police still have it on its books as unsolved there must be relatives alive today whom are suffering from loosing family the police said it was a mental
person whom they think done it and he has left the area may be with dna now they
may reopen the case one never knows still you never know what turns up
people have been apprended forty years after there crime and just when they thougt they got away with it the police knock there door and hands on there shoulder
and they have got them bang to right i wonder howmany other people ever remember
this incident i still remember the crime because i was working the north field area myself at the time best wishes astonian ;;

Can't help sorry other than that I worked with an in-law who underwent extensive police questioning during the enquiry. He went from a fairly happy go lucky sort to morose.

bernie ,
is he okay now it must have been terrible for him to be accused of some-think by the police when he knew nothink about it well they reckon it was a vagrant
whom done this terrible crime it makes my blood boil to think some-one out there whom committede this crime to this family and they are walking around free as a bird
surely if they had got dna in those days and supose they could get a person today
that the dna would convict them for it so i surpose it will rest on the files and
gather dust as they say , astonian ;;

I was on contract to the council and had to go into a lot of houses after deaths or murder scenes and that one was one the worst i had seen regards of blood loss and blood spatter, i had to get rid of the carpets and furniture, it was a bungalow in overbury road and every room was covered in a silvery dust to highlight the blood, a few months later i had to go to northfield police station to dispose of the interior doors wich they had taken and labelled and numbered every blood spot

hi jonacs1
rather you than me seeing al that mess of blood it had to be the work of a manica depression some-body on drugs i beleive they had rode away on a bike
a very old fashioned bike if i remember correctly i expect it was rather smelling in there
did you get a tetus jab after wards for protection agaist any think or germs
I beleive these people whom got murdered was disabled people whom could not defend there selves i beleive there was a murder in victoria rd aston years ago andi don,t think they apprened any body for that it was an old news agent on victoria rd
these people whom do these sort of things must do it on the spur of the moment
jonas where about is this overbury rd northfield i am trying to place it in my mind
thanks for telling us about the scene at the time the police never told joe public just how bad it was as i have just said rather youthan me going inside that property
have a nice day best wishes astonian ,;;

Boy that was hard work !- but i (eventually!) got this
"The Birmingham Post (England); Jul 24, 1999; 700+ Words ...there any sign of theft. Harold Smith, his wife Mary and their disabled son Harold Jnr were subjected to one...Midlands at their home in Overbury Close, Northfield, Birmingham. Mr Smith...the house. Mr Smith Jnr had also been gagged"

well done Tali on finding that. I spent ages digging around and was surprised how often a triple murder occurs. If I find a thread that interests me I will spend hours searching, often finding not very much, in this case nowt.
Must say it surpises me there is so little about these murders.

Thanks Arkwright.
I thought that the info i had would get me enough keywords for a good google - sadly not!
Surprised aswell as why there seems to be a info dead end to this and a few other murders

It is an awkwardly routed road in different parts- might be difficult to pinpoint house- unless jonacs1 knows more details

thanks arkrite
manythanks for giving us the down load maps of overbury rd northfield
i would say the person whom committed this horrible crime is still
walking free and un punished for this wicked crime and he is a local
person, if i remember corectly there was an very old bike taken from
the shed ,but nothink was taken from the house ,
but for what person or reason did this manica committ this murder ,
is beyond me . best wishes astonian ;;;

I think you meant "thanks Tali":D
As for the crime it is difficult to comprehend such savagery.I'm not privy to the info/evidence the police have but i fear there must have been some errors probably in evidence gathering at scene on their part that have resulted in the case remaining unsolved
A local person possibly a drug addict? would be most likely suspect - starting with tower block residents nearby.

hi tali
i do beg your pardon and sorry to arkrite .
it was a case of my peanut brain thinking faster than my little hand clashing
to the key pads .
have a nice day best wishes astonian ;;;

Oh what have they done to Northfield !!!! I was born and bred in Northfield, I got married at St Laurences church ( the old stone church) I left in 1966 and have never been back, i'm not sure i want to see the place now, its unrecognisable to me. :cry:

Scenes of Crime Investigation has altered beyond recognition in the last 20 yrs. Cold case units are re-examining some cases but I can imagine the backlog is immense.Quite afew murders go unsolved but I do know the Police always give it their best shot. Years ago as a young copper I remember the old boys discussing past unsolved murders.The want to know never goes away.
You could always have the brass neck to write to the Chief Constable and ask if there have been any further developements but your likely to just get a pro-forma letter back.May be its not such a good idea.

Hello williams,
I have known Northfield for the past 6 years. I drive my mrs to the Q.E. on a regular basis.The traffic was such a bottleneck the council had to put in the ring road. I would imagine the locals life expectancy has risen with the drop in traffic in the shopping centre. I was born in Walsall in 1950 and I hate what has happened there so I dont visit now.Such is progress.

hi arkrite
yes you are quite right its a complete shambles i was up there the other day
to do some business i had to go to resovoir rd just down from bell lane because i deal with propertys for a certain client. and like you i virtualy used to live in the northfield area for my line of business i used to reposses houses in that south side of birmingham and quite alot all around northfield i think it terrible now than ever
and weoly castle sqaure , well what can you say the council have really bambozeled the place i ,m only surprizwed they have not touched the black horse pub
best wishes astonian ;;

I have been living in the bungalow that was the site of the unsolved triple murder 25 years ago for the past 13 years. The property has a dark history, as it was the scene of a horrific crime that shocked the community in Birmingham's Northfield district. The Smith family, who were well-respected churchgoers and known throughout the locality, were brutally murdered in their own home.

Harry and Mary Smith, along with their son Harold who was confined to a wheelchair after a tragic accident, were found dead in their bungalow in a scene of absolute carnage. The motive for the murders remains unknown, as there were no clear enemies or reasons for such a brutal attack. Despite a thorough police investigation and a high number of burglaries in the area leading up to the murders, no suspects were ever identified.

Despite the dark history of the property, I have made it my home for over a decade. While the overgrown grounds and ramshackle appearance may deter some, I have found peace and comfort within these walls. The memories of the Smith family may linger, but I have created new memories and a sense of safety in this space. The unsolved mystery of the triple murder may still haunt the community, but I choose to focus on the present and the life I have built in this bungalow.
