new WW1 project

I have just returned from Ypres after laying a wreath at a ceremony at the Menin Gate

hello 205mal

I have been a few times to the Menin Gate ceremony at 8pm. However, I am a "Somme" person. I will be returning for a long weekend in September and once again I will be walking in the footsteps of those gallant lads

Terry

I have also walked in those footsteps Terry, proudly and sadly.
Thiepval, Poiziers,Beaumont Hamel etc. all so very peaceful now and very thought provoking.

We were touring France and stayed in Abbeville our first evening there we went for a short drive and down a country lane we came across a tiny
clearing with a centre Cross and about 8 graves , they had the white headstones exactly the same as in the larger cemeteries, have you any idea why
these men would not have been buried with their comrades.
I have tried to recall where we went to find it on Google but no luck so far.

If it was near Abbeville it was in a back area used for training/rest for Divisions taken out of the line. If we knew the name of the cemetery we could see the date of death/regiment spread. Reasons - illness, disease, accident?
