Hi Everyone
This is my first post. My grandfather was Thomas William Jennings. He lived at Nechells where I was born. I believe he had previously lived at Aston. I am seeking any help in tracing his forbears.
TIA
Happy New Year to all

:D Hi chatty, First welcome to the site and forum. :)
I would love to try and help you in your search but to be able to do this, you will have to give out a little more information (be a little more chatty :) ) e.g; Dates, Street names and othere names (wife, children, siblings etc).
I was born in Aston but lived in Nechells for a good number of years.

I would have emailed this to you but you have not allowed one :)
Chris

Thomas William Jennings marriage registered Jan/Feb/March quarter 1910
Aston, reference Vol 6d page 334
Quickest way to obtain certificate which will give you more details including the name of Thomas father is to telephone and pay by credit card. +44 870 243 7788 this is the General Register Office.
The cost is approx 11 pounds sterling.

:D Chatty ,I checked out two more sites and these seem to be the right Certificates for your Tom. I know it says June , but it was common for
children to be registered late.
Both cert's will have Tom's Dads name on and the birth one will have his Mother's also . There will also be addresses on both as to where they were living.
I phone to +44 870 243 7788 get my cert's and it costs me 7 English pounds ($22-30 NZ depending on rate at the time).Hope this is of help.Chris :)

Hi Everyone
To say I am overwhelmed is an understatement, the generosity being shown is amazing. My very sincere thanks go to all of you.
This may be slightly off topic but I was interested to see that Alberta lives in Bacon's End where I lived in 1942. A small world indeed.
Chris your info confirms that which I thought due to his marriage to Sarah Ann Morris. I shall ring and get the Cert many thanks. It will be good to get his father's name etc.
Best wishes everyone and thank you again.
Gord

Hi Gord,
A small world indeed. The Bacons End you knew bears no resemblence to the place in your time here.We are part of the large Chelmsley Wood
housing area.In 1942 it would have been the bluebell woods,I am next to the Birmingham Road,by the island.I believe the houses on the birmingham road would have been the Bacons End in 1942.

Back to your ancestors Thomas Jennings on the 1901 census
Thomas Jennings age 22 b. Birmingham, Grocers van man
Sarah Jennings age 21 b. Birmingham, Brass electric lacquerer
both in Admin county Birmingham ,civil parish aston

No other Thomas Jennings found that fits the age and area.

Worth a look at www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk
You can pay by credit card approx £1.25 to access complete record.which will give you the address

when checking the St Catherines index or the BMD and it refers to a certain quarter such as June quarter besides parents notifying late births. births that fell in late March were then put in the June quarter so it's like what it says you must check out all possibilties even to the fact that not all births were registered
also check with who you are appling to for your certificates that they actually cover the area you are researching example Birmingham does not have all the Aston coverage
and they will just say they cant find it where as it might be in another area

Quite right...

:D You are quite right John H, that is why living NZ I use the General Register office rather than local ones. Apart from when getting cert's from Hartlepool where there is a very nice team who have looked up not only their local area for me, but also Durham and Northumberland with no extra charge. Doing family research you must alwys be prepared to look outside what you already know (think you know even), or have. :? :)
