Looks better in real life. Be intrresting to know tho what the designers inspiration was.its also important to incorporate modern shapes I guess. I like the older roman collumns etc shapes in some buildings but weve gone past tht stage now. Agree with bull ring design growing on you the because it has on me. Be interesting to see if our opinions change in years to come.

New pic from the BCN Main Line

Although it hasn't changed much since this February shot of mine from Sheepcote Street Bridge (as the building is complete).

It is inside and the landscaping outside that is changing.

Also poking a view from the Oozells Street Loop Junction Bridge near National Sea Life Birmingham

Same bridge in 2009 - no library! (National Sea Life Birmingham was still called National Sealife Centre back then)

No problem.

Was an EDL protest near the Hall of Memory, so this time, this was all I took of it. Presence of the West Midlands Police.

Hi

Yep still not every bodies favourite yet. Seems more like a Mosque than a Library and in noway conforms to any other building in the vicinity.
I'm sure the round Funnel on the Top is an architectural distraction. The Birds nest appearance is a take off from the Famous Birds Nest Stadium in China.
There are areas now the Landscaping around the periphery that look pleasant.

It looks better when the sun shines but I hope the golden yellow fades soon.
Perhaps we'll like it or when we can use it?
I'm intrigued by the roof gardens, the sixth floor of the old Library had water features when it rained...... all those buckets!!
rosie.

Here it is as seen from Hazelwell Fordrough in Stirchley, with The Cube. As seen on the skyline of Birmingham!

With other Broad Street buildings

I think you might have hit the nail on the head with that comment Mike... Perhaps they are keeping their options open... if it fails as a library just turn it into another Mosque!!

I don't know what the criteria was for the exterior. A plain glass structure would be just that...plain and ugly. Maybe the exterior adornment will prevent bird strikes which is a problem with glass sun screen buildings. So, that at least, is a good thing. The rest is just a matter of weather proofing the largest area for the smallest expenditure. Pretty much like the Station structure.
It will be interesting to see how it works out over time. If it does maybe more will be in the offing. Who knows...the Council House.
