thanks bri but to be fair it looks even better in the flesh..if you get what i mean and tours of the baths and the pool are availabe at no charge so if anyone is interested at a future date it can be arranged...quite handy really as the villa tavern is opposite lol..

Thanks for posting the photos Lyn it is so nice to see the inside after passing it every day, I sit at the traffic lights looking at the outside and think wot a wonderful building and the inside is not a dissapointment, they have done such a good job, thanks again Lyn and I look forward to the next lot.
hi el stano as long as they were happy memories thats the main thing....cant wait to see the swimming pool next week and hopefully the old living quarters...i may ask ann to take a pic of me standing in the middle of it..the swimming pool that is lol..

Isn't it great to see a refurb that's so sympathetically done. Seeing the tiles all around and the woodwork in the entrances feels nicely familiar. Glad to see the hairdryer shelf, must have used that shelf many, many times (well I'm assuming it's the one that was there 45 years ago!). And agree with you Lyn that it's good to hear it's a building that's being fully used and in a more flexible way day to day. That's often the only way we can retain these buildings. This looks like a success story. Viv.

hi viv...yes i agree that this building has really not changed...heritage were most insistant about that i am pleased to say..even down to the hooks that you hung your clothes on in the cubicles..i will also get some shots of those next week and yes that hair dryer shelf would be the one you used...hope you find that swimming pass viv...

Hi Astoness great photos of the old baths thank you for posting them, I used to use the swimming baths as a kid as I lived in the area, then I suddenly realize that I had some photos of the day it was newly opened by Carl Chinn I think it was on 17/2/2006. as this is my first post to this site I am hoping I can get the photo on for you all to see.

Great photo Pudding. It all looks much brighter than I remember it. When we went here with the school, if you had a note from home to excuse you from swimming lessons, you were allowed to sit on that balcony and watch the lesson. Also remember those ladies rubber swimming caps. Always seemed too big. Couldn't quite see the point of them? They never kept your hair dry. Consequently spent a long time queuing for and using the hairdryer. Then we'd make the school bus late to take us back to school. Not intentional of course! Viv.

My senior school used Nechells Baths as well - I remember it well.
I was in the 'width' swimmers and we used to have the lady instructor at the baths (as opposed to the beginners and the length swimmers who had a teacher from our school). She was very butch looking - anyone else remember her? This was in the mid 60's.
It was always a rush at the end of the lesson to get dry and dressed before the bus came to take us back to the school!
