Quite a few have not heard of Wharf Street. Even less know of the Navigation Inn. As a result, I am addressing the situation with a small amount of detail at :

Hi I have a query - was part of Holliday Street ever previously called Wharf Street? Whilst researching my Wattis relatives I found two branches of their family in 32 and 33 Wharf Street in the 1887 Electoral Register for St Thomas area. The same two branches of the family, and their neighbours are listed as being at 87 and 89 Holliday Street in the 1891 Census. If it has been just the Wattis families I would have thought they may have moved, but all all the same neighbours names appear in the surrounding courts. There also seems to be an interim listing of 32 and 33 Holliday Street in the 1890 Electoral register, presumably the houses got renumbered at that point. Can anyone shed any light on this and where in Holliday Street/WHarf Street these houses were please?

Yes, at that time there was a lot of work building the Midland Railway goods Yard . As can be see, Wharf road runs from Suffolk St to Bridge St, and Holliday St from Gas St to Communication Row. and in 1884 the Wharf St and Holliday St listings in Kelly are:



By the time of the 1888 Kellys, Wharf St has disappeared and Holliday St runs from Suffilk St to Communication Row. Herbert Powell is still a beer retailer in the 1884 and 1888 editions, but road is different
