Hi Sue, I did see them all on theITV local news, it said there were over 1500 altogether, at least it was dry for them, as my old CO would have said "An excellant turnout", take care now Bernard.

I think you missed a "0" off that figure Bernard, more like 15000 bikers turned up.

It was around 15000, but Mick says it is all much better organised as the years go by, even with the increasing number of bikers. There was even a group from one of the Paris Harley riders groups, which is nice as the NMA are looking to be known internationally.
Great time was had by all apparently and it will be going ahead next year again, all the funds raised go to the NMA - will let you know how much when it is all added up.
Sue

Sorry about the missing nought, good job I hadnt written you a cheque, we are all allowed senior moments sometimes eh! Just shows that most people will support our lads, dead or alive whether or not they agree with them being out there which I certainly do not! Bernard

That looks good now Dave, nice to see them when they are completed, really must take mom and dad over again, just seem to run out of time!

I was one of the 15000 bikers that RTTW on Saturday 6th October 2012. A better day couldn't have been had by any. Organization was second to none and in true biker fashion, everything went to plan. There were no hold ups on any of the roads we traveled on, and no problems at all in getting into the Arboretum itself. Bikers like to eat and drink at the end of a ride and the facility laid on for the event couldn't have been better. There were few queues for food and drink, and prices were reasonable as well. The annual service was conducted by speakers including Martin Dickinson the original man behind the RTTW, and local dignitaries. A short sermon was presented by the local vicar, and two pipers played traditional Scottish pieces on the pipes. A young girl gave the last post on her bugle, which was followed by a minutes silence. Those who had lost loved ones and relatives in past conflicts, later made their way up the steps to the main memorial to lay wreathes.
This will be an annual event, and will take place on the first Saturday in October each year.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old, age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn, at the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.

Bernie, if I'd known you were going would have told you about A38, apparently there was a major water main collapse on Wednesday evening, it was closed from Thursday and is hoped to re-open on Monday morning. Our consultants have moaned about it as they have had to go the long way home lol.
Hope you are keeping well.
Sue

Must visit this place again when it is not too sunny. There is a lovely walk for dogs but you need a day that is cool enough to put them back in the car while you visit the Arboretum.

Thanks Sue, Wasnt myself on Friday, went without my camera, I never ever go out without it, then noticed the road was closed and I know that area very well, used to do the Sunday Letter box collection round there in the 1950/60s, could have come back several different ways.Afraid I am getting really old in mind and body, when it rains my knees and shoulders are very painful, ought to see my GP and get some stronger painkillers I suppose.Perhaps if I had been driving, but Stephanies friend has a new 4X4 Skoda, lovely ride, nice car, should be he paid £23000, for it, no the noughts are right this time.Have put quite a number of photos on Facebook lately, its so easy, take care then, Bernard

Have read that The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded a a grant of 2.8 million pounds to the NMA. This is towards the 8 million required for new buildings on the site at Alrewas. They hope to start building early next year.Anyone who has not been there really should make the effort, it is well worth a visit. You might even see Dave! Bernard
