Nathaniel Cracknell Reading

The above is an ancestor and I understand he was a person of note in Moseley. I've also noted he he listed in portraits at the archives in Birmingham, something to do with Birmingham City Council.

Do any Brummies out there have any more information?

Nathaniel traded as N.C.Reading & Co., a manufacturing jewellers at least between 1910-1961.
Kelly's 1949 gives his address as 33,34 & 35 Hall Street.

Nathanial Cracknell Reading is buried in Key Hill Cemetery. Section O grave number 518 Here is the memorial inscription and details with thanks to the late Dick Empsom

In affectionate remembrance of Walter READING who departed this life December 28th 1868 aged 52 years. "The memory of the just is blessed." Also of Sarah Ann widow of the above who peacefully entered into rest on Sunday January 31st 1886 aged 69 years. "The darkness is past, and the true light now shineth." READING. (Side): In loving memory of Agnes Elizabeth the beloved wife of Althans BLACKWELL & daughter of Walter & S. A. READING who died at Bellagio, Italy June 26th 1898 aged 51 years. Interred at the Protestant Cemetery, Bellagio. "Life is all the sweeter that she lived, and all she loved more sacred for her sake, and death is all the brighter that she died, and heaven is all the happier that she's there." (Rear): In loving memory of Nathaniel Cracknell READING J. P. & Alderman of this city died March 29th 1924 aged 74 years & his dearly loved wife Emma Hannah who passed away March 4th 1934 aged 81 years. Notes: - Nathaniel Cracknell READING, J.P. Retired from the City Council 1921. Died March 29th 1924 aged 74 years. Manning. Tall obelisk set of pedestal and stepped plinth. Fine low relief acanthus and palmate carving on base of obelisk and cross set in circle on pediment of pedestal.
