Mystery Location

Phil

Gone, but not forgotten.
Can anybody tell me where this road is. The photo comes from the West Midland Police museum website at,

https://www.westmidlandspolicemuseum.co.uk/vehiclephotos.htm

It is driving me crazy because it looks so familiar, but I cant put a name to it. It is no 16 in a series of 16 photos on the site. I think I can pretty well put a name to all the other locations but this one has me stumped. I ever emailed the keeper of the museum Mr David Cross. But he was only able to suggest it might be Aston near 5 ways and I don't think it is there.

I would like to agree with you and its a good possibility but I would raise a couple of questions. If it were as you say and we were looking toward Aston Lane. Would we not see the Crown & Cushion, if we were looking the other way wouldn't we see the corner of Willmore Rd. Besides the canopy of the Birchfield doesn't look quite right I think it was deeper than that.

Phil,it looks like Birchfield Road to me.Moss.

I think it is Perry Barr. From that angle you wouldn't actually be able to see the Crown and Cushion as I remember it was laid back from the road somewhat and not right on the actual corner.

Phil, they've cracked it, I wasn't sure it was in Brum, but I never got up that way in my younger days.
Well done everyone.

Yes there is no doubt that from mossg's photo it is as John suggested Birchfield Rd outside the Birchfield Cinema. I have been trying to put a name to that road for at least a year now, and it just wouldn't come. Thanks all.

Col i was looking at the photo and thinking those houses i,m sure are on the Kingsbury Rd near the Tyburn House should have gone with my impulse wouldn,t have got the cafe though. Dek

Col

You see this is what happens when you put your faith in captions on some of these old photos. I keep saying that I won't do it any more especially in areas that I don't know well. Was the area itself known as Tyburn at one time?

As you can see on my photo it states Chapel & Post Office, Tyburn.

Another one I have had knocking around in my collection for ages without a clue to where it is. It looks like Ladywood to me. Other than that I don't have a clue. Can anybody help?

Somebody asked me about a year ago, and like Dek Carr I thought I knew the terraced houses.

Your other one looks familiar for some reason, but I dunno where it is.

Pity you cant read the company name on the telly shop.
