My Earliest Relative to date

Alf

Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P.
He was found by more than one member of this Forum, he was one William Buckley born 1820s Churcheaton Staffordshire and he was a Cordwainer I didn't know what that was but I've just found out.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordwainer

I had heard he was a Shoemaker but he might have progressed a bit.

My Dad had tried to to find his family roots for years telling us his Dad came from Stafford well he was right, but he never had the modern aids we have now and this great Forum.

So lets help the members who have put things up for Auction after they all we get wonderful help and it cost us very little for something which would on the outside.

Alf I am so please you found William. Take no notice of trades they were like some of us in our youth choping and changing. I had a relative who started as a bootmaker and ended up a baker, at first I thought it was mis transcribed but no it wasn't!

I echo what you have said about the auction. Lets help members to raise funds to keep this site going. Like everything else it costs money. I know I sound like a broken record but some of the research done here is worth donating a few bob. So go on click Ways To Help, or have a go at the auction! Pleeeeease:)

Alf,perhaps these records may interest you

I note that your william had 2 sisters
Sarah baptised 8th Sept 1816 Church Eaton
Hannah 21st Nov 1819 Church Eaton

William 13th July 1821 Church Eaton

in all cases only the mothers name (Mary) is given which would probably mean she was unmarried.

Mary Buckley baptised 26th Oct 1796 Church Eaton
parents Jonathan and Mary.

Jonathan and Mary had the following children
John 1786
Sarah 1789
Elizabeth 1791
Ann 1794
Mary 1796
Jane 1799
Esther 1801
James 1803
Joseph1805
Abraham 1808
all baptised Church Eaton

A Jonathan Buckley married a Mary Meeson in Bradley(next village to Church Eaton) 14th May 1780

Alberta you are a Treasure, I will be back a soon as I've had a closer look but it looks good to me having found the 13th July 1821 date of Williams Birth months ago.:422:

Alberta any chance that you can find the birth dates of Jonathan Buckley & Mary Meeson, I've found the Village where they married:)

Sorry Alf,the trail seems to have gone cold.
If one of our friends in Staffordshire could visit the Stafford records office the Parish records for Bradley and Church Eaton are on microfiche.
From my own Staffordshire research I find that they didn't move around very much perhaps because most of them were farmers.

Morning Alberta, thanks for the advice.

I found the map to find where the Church was in relation to Church Eaton,

I am not sure what type of Church C of E or Roman Catholic it was but its got plenty of Photos will have a look later.:)

This is the same family I'm researching I live about 7miles away from gnosall and not much more from church eaton, so I have been there many times. My family, descendants from the Buckley family all still live there too under the name Buckley-Robins which came about in 1912 when John Buckley Married Mary Robins, I beilieve William Buckley you talk about from the 1820s was his grandfather. My Grandads dad was also called william but his name at birth was obviously Buckley-Robins. I'm sooo excited to have found this forum and know someone else, a distant relative is researching the same people!!

How spooky, was helping my cousin with her tree yesterday and we came accross one of her relatives who was an apprentice Cordwainer, had no idea what it was as he was then listed as a shoemaker 10 years on and then this thread gets bumped up!! now i can tell her what it was, i need to get her to join this site but she's not very techy so will struggle lol
