Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.

I am trying to find out about a MRS ROBERTS living at 15, Wells Road, Sheldon in 1940. She arranged the funeral of Harry Bott who was killed on the night of November 1940 after his wife and daughters were killed. Harry was from Gooch Street.

I am keen to find out what relation, if any Mrs Roberts was to the family.

Is it possible to find out who was living at 15 Wells Road Sheldon during the war?

All but th efirst few numbers in Wells Road are in Solihull, so are not included in the electoral rolls of the Birmingham Kellys
 
Thank you mike. What a shame I will never know the connection :( The notice was in the Birmingham Mail on November 25th 1940.

It seems strange that nobody from the immediate family were involved with arranging the funerals at Yardley.

Oh well another enigma. Thank you again for your time.
 
The details would be presumably in the solihul electoral rolls, which presumably would be available at Solihul library
 
On the 1939 register there are a Walter and Nellie Roberts listed in the Solihull district with the address Wells Road. Nellie's birth 1912.

Nellie Gwendoline Roberts death listed 1982 in Solihull. Dob 31 May 1912.

Nellie G Bott & Walter R Roberts marriage listed Bham Mar qtr 1933.

Nellie G Bott birth listed Sep qtr Bham. Mother's maiden name Mason.

Harry Bott & Nellie Mason marriage listed Bham Mar qtr 1912.

So Nellie Roberts was Harry Bott's eldest daughter.
 
Walter R Roberts birth on 1939 register given as 1906.

Walter Raymond Roberts death listed in Solihull, Nov 1984. Birth listed as May 1906.

There is a birth listed for a Walter Raymond Roberts in Kings Norton, Jun qtr 1906.

In 1939 there are 2 others living with them and there are 2 Roberts/Bott children listed priot to 1939 in the area...

John R - Bham, Jun qtr 1935 & Alan W - Solihull, Mar qtr 1937.

There is a further Roberts/Bott child listed in Bham, Sep qtr 1952 - Kelvin J. Might be too late though.
 
Also the Harry Bott and his family's deaths are listed on the CWGC site.

Harry's death is given as 24th Oct 1940.

Nellie & her daughters' deaths are given as 19th Nov 1940.
 
great info mws...just out of interest rowan are these rellies of yours...if they are their names should be on the the tree of life memorial for civilian dead thats in the city centre....i happen to be going there tomorrow so i could take a photo of their names if you wish..

Yes they were members of our family although we never knew of them until my brother started doing our family tree.

hi rowan such a sad loss of life..i also have rellies on the tree of life...house took a direct hit in erdington..your rellies names are also in a book i have along with the names of all the civilians who died during the air raids in birmingham....will take a photo off the memorial for you tomorrow along with a close up of the bott names

wow thats great janice...dont really think i can do any better with my camera...i find it all very sad..such a massive loss of life...the one that i found the saddest was the astle family from guildford st...if you look at their names there are 8 of them...6 were children and the other 2 was the mother and grandmother..the husband could well have been away fighting...if he was and he came back alive i dont know how he would have coped with such a loss..my 2 harringtons are also there..husband and wife..

It is indeed a very sad story. We never knew any thing about our Bott family (our Father died August 1940 2 months before my birth) and our Mother never spoke of that side of the family even up to her death 14 years ago so what we know is mainly down to my brothers hard work in searching the Family Tree.
