Hi all,
how many of you remember Moon's on the corner of Slade Road and Salford Bridge. The Moon's were our next door neighbours in Kegworth Road till we moved up to the top end of Erdington near to the Orphanage.I can still recall the clock in the tower chiming away on every quarter then striking up on the hour, every hour, happy days. Then suddenly they stopped and the next thing was, they were knocking it down.

If you type Sir Josiah Mason Orphanage into the search box you will see pictures of the orphanage

There was a W.Moons newsagents on Lichfield Road, just before Waterworks Street and the Last Chance cafe, were they connected in any way?

Hi Astonite
i do not know about that but what i can tell you its the same family whom had the little news agent up the top end of lichfield rd next to clarbelle coaches and little petrol fore court
and was facing our terrace cromwell terrace way back in the forties and fifties it was a little shop very tiny and you had to step down into the shop if he had three people standing in there seving them you had to wait until some one came out before you could step in there to get served they later on in years went on to be news agent whole salers
down in newtown row it was the rd facing the the newtown pali or if you like the newtown bingo hall as it became in the seventys by he traffic lights and the old rd that took you up to
