The ‘Monkey Run’ I knew was at the bottom of Common Lane,Bromford, it used to run alongside the river Tame, by the tubes factory.
It may be called ‘Monkey Run’ because it was used as a shortcut to Bromford Lane, as I have heard the expression used to dash across town.
at least you get to see there faces before hand. sounds like something off attenboughs nature progs.Probably a lot safer than internet dating!

That Coventry Road monkey run was just about surviving in the late 1940's. It had gone by the time I might have been interested. The last one I saw was somewhere in Wales in the 60's.My mom used to tell me that as a teenager, she and her girl friends would go to the monkey run. In this case, she was referring to the area of the A45 Coventry Road which ran alongside Small Heath Park. She said that girls would walk up and down one side of the road, and boys would walk up and down the other side. Each side eying up the other. LOL!
