I presume this would be standard practice in the case of an unpaid mortgage. I have not found a death for him yet and always felt my mother thought it was an unexplained death rather than someone doing a runner because of debts.

He died in 1967 in Norfolk but seems to have been living in Londain.. Probate is granted to a Rosina Andrews (no idea who she was) but only mentions £5

I am puzzled - I have just found a newspaper article in which "Gilbert Arthur Palmer of Queens Gate, Kensington" is referred to as an Industrial chemist.

However, the name is not really common with those forenames and with the Robert added on the probate notice I suppose it must be the same person.

Found the article on the mystery.

what a fascinating story and search Janice! I was beginning to think it had the makings of an interesting secret service novel. The probate notice has a hand written add on.

yes fascinating story but also a little sad...so pleased the mystery is solved although we dont know why he just did not want to be found unless his debts were massive even though he had assets....and fancy no rent collector knocking at the door for several years o_O

That wasn't on the one I found but does explain the £5.
So glad we solved the mystery but, as Lyn said, so sad.

I was glad Grange Road got a mention as it just tied it all together.
