Missing Landlord 191 Grange Rd Small Heath

I understand that my Mother found this property to rent when married in WW2. At some point the landlord disappeared. I think during wartime. There was some story that the landlord worked for a Birmingham newspaper as a photographer. I can remember as a child when we were out for a family walk, near as was then Elmdon Airport, that she pointed out a house at Bickenhill that she said was the landlord’s home. I wondered if anyone could find information about the Photographer landlord?
 
Rate books may help but they're only online upto 1913 atm

A Thomas and Helena Williams appear to be at 191 Grange Road on the ERs from 1920s until 1960s and 1939 register.

Mum & Dad were married in 1941. Dad was in the forces.

No. My Mother was Elsie May Ford b 24/5/1917 . Dad was John Norman Lewis born 2/1/1915. Thomas and Helena are not related to me.
 
Were electoral registers updated during the war? I worked on electoral registration at one time and names were only changed when a new resident requested registration to vote? Consequently earlier resident names remained on the register.

jan tinpots parents were at this address in 1950 small heath...no sign of the williams being there though

Have answered my own question.
The Williams come under Kings Heath and Moseley ward.
Tinpot's parents are under Small Heath Ward - two different Grange Roads.

Margaret Leftly seems to be at the Small Heath address in 1955 this is where John and Elsie Lewis lived NOT where the Williams lived which seems to be King's Heath.
Can't post images as on phone not laptop at the moment.
 
As I recollect my Mother continued paying the rent to the City Council. I don’t know if they ( the council) legally took ownership of the property. I imagine there must have been Similar circumstances where landlords were disappeared/lost during the war.

I have the wrong Grange Road then, sorry for the confusion.

I now see that Elsie appears to be there in 1945 and in 1950 she and her husband.

On 1912 rate book the properties 190 to 194 Grange Road are owned by an Elizabeth Palmer. She lives in 194 with her husband Arthur (who is a photographer - but he died in 1915)

After Arthur's death I think Eliza remarries to Fred Faulk West. The interesting thing is that on the 1939 register they are back living at 194. Love his occupation.

However, Arthur and Eliza had a son Gilbert and he is listed in the 1938 Kelly's as ....a press photographer.

Just found Gilbert on 1939 eroll listed at his workplace in John Bright Street but ... abode is at Bickenhill. Ties in with info in post #1

Cannot quite make it out does it say "Breeding Rabbits for Food" ? If so he was ingenious to overcome his unemployment situation

Rabbits can breed between one and seven litters a year (average 4) about each litter can contain between one and 12 kits. Now if he only had one rabbit that only bred once having one kit he was skint.....not the best or easiest job
 
Found electoral roll 1931 with Gilbert Palmer at 119 John Bright St. He seems to be resident there whilst others reside elsewhere? Not sure what all the abbreviations mean.

Also have a ref to a newspaper item but I do not have access. Any help would be appreciated. Tinpot
