Drew’s Forge may reach back to the 17C. An advert from 1841 shows it to be “a plating forge with large pool of water (Holloway Pool, now gone), a head and fall of 16 feet, driving two hammers, a dwelling house and shopping for moulding and finishing spades and shovels. Also a house suitable for residential manager. Apply Mr. Homfray.” It can be dated back further to at least 1783 and 1804 when a B Coley is charge.

The 16ft fall suggests that it was one of the major water-powered sites and an early tilt hammer forge.
Drew’s Holloway still has the name today an is the downhill stretch that led to the Forge and Holloway Pool. Holloway means a sunken lane or track.

OS Map surveyed 1882.
