Millbrick, Rectory Lane Castle Bromwich

Charles E Bateman lived at No.3 Rectory Lane which he called Millbrick because he used the bricks of Castle Bromwich Mill to build it. It was built in 1897. The watermill had stood on the River Tame where the M6 motorway crosses Chester Road and had just been demolished.

Charles Bateman seems to have set a good example of recycling/repurposing in construction. Not only did he use the bricks from the demolition of the local mill to construct his house, he acquired panelling from the C18 church at Water Orton for his house too.
