Military funeral arrangements in WW1

It seems that efforts were usually made to give serving officers or those dying of wounds a full military funeral. Can’t imagine how exactly this worked on the Front in WW1. I expect the priority, given the volume and possibility of disease, was to bury the men as quickly as possible at the most local site. Then the sites became the later memorials ? Viv.
