Midland Paint Lozells

Just a guess. The Midland Paint & Varnish Co started at 19A Graham st, lozells. It went into receivership in 1940, but presumably someone bought it, as it carried on there (according to Kellys) till sometime between 1946 and 1949 (map showing position in red). In 1949 this has disappeared, but there was a firm Midland Paint & Oil Co at 85 Clifford St (where there had previously been the Midland Oil Co on the corner of Lennox St ) which I reckon was a new site for the merged companies. By 1955 they had moved to Helena St, but the works were called the Empire Works. Disappeared by 1969. Bit of guesswork, but only thing I could find. Letter from co showing name of works attached

Thanks for the swift investigation - looks promising. Maybe they also traded as the Empire & Midland Co. at some point. Interesting that both the pot label and the invoice advertise that they have been established over 50 years.
