Tonight sees the last week of Michaels journeys round the country following Bradshaws Guide, this has been a good
series, although he a bit toffee nosed, people seem to relate to him, I believe he is in our part of the country
this evening, looking forward to it, Bernard

I have enjoyed watching this series, and think that Michael Portillo has come across as quite a nice chap - he's polite and I even like his colourful shirts! I was a bit miffed that Paignton wasn't mentioned when the programme came to Torquay as that is where the steam train journey to Kingswear begins. But on the whole, a good bit of TV. Anthea.

We enjoyed the journey through Millers Dale today, we have had some lovley holidays there. Good viewing, but I wish it was at a better time as I am always cooking dinner.

Di - Be revolutionary and record it or watch it on iPlayer. It has been a great series along with Pete Waterman's series on railways. Lovely to see two people with such a love of the railways and the country in general.

How very poignant to see Michael visit Bournville, obviously before all the sadness surrounding the takeover.

How well Michael has come across in this series to nice to be a politician well out of it. Dek

I really enjoyed this programme - I thought Bourneville looked lovely - it hasn't changed - I wonder what will happen to the estate now. It's very sad that Cadbury's has been sold.

The trust isn't anything to do with the company, other than certain facilities that Cadbury provide, so it shouldn't make any difference.

A really good series and at the end it was announced that there will be another early next year.
The St Pancras Hotel shown in today's programme is a superb building, we saw it on one of the Building Open Days. It had been used latterly as Council offices, with stud walls put up, cracks on every surface and in total neglect. I can't wait to see it in its glory again next year. I have a watercolour painting of it that I did, it left such an impression on me.

It was an excellent programme, we enjoyed it very much. I agree with Di, that it was on at an awkward time. Perhap's the next series will be put on at a later date. What was the name of the hotel that used to stand next door to New Street Station years ago, was it 'Queen's'. I remember it had fabulous chandeliers. Did anyone watch the David Dimbleby programme on Sunday night? Another fascinating one to watch.

There is a report that the series is going to be repeated on BBBC 1 this week or next after the 10 oc news - another great time!! maybe if Michael had a football on his head it would be shown at a realistic time.

Did anyone see 'Contryfile' on BBC1 a week back the Settle Carlisle line was featured with a visit to Blea Moor Box. The external condition of the box was very poor with paint flaking off everywhere. I wounder how long this box will remain open? Network Rail ought to be ashamed of itself.

Enjoyed the Dawlish line brings back memories of Trainspotting in the Sea.

All my photos are JPEG, so I dont understand whats happened, I have uploaded before and had no problems. Can anyone explain as apart from the basics, I dont really know much, how it got converted to a PHP file and how I might have done this, I'm also puzzled that if it is a format not recognised ,how can I see it on there when I click on it? Astonite

You will see it as it will reference the copy you have on your PC. If you clear your cache and delete cookies it may well disappear.

Thanks Astonite - got the photo - click on the photo and it enlarges - I agree computers can trip you up, its nice to know we have people on the forum who can put us right. I am running Windows7 to a dual core processor. Regards.

I can see now that it must be something to do with the size. I took that photo on my phone which has a 5 mega-pixel camera, the photos are quite large and I had forgotten to re-size it before attaching, I still prefer windows xp, although my son has windows 7 on his computer.

I was interested in seeing the Walsall-Bourneville episode, but of course, living out of the UK found it impossible. However, did finally manage to find the whole series on a site. Slow download, but after tinkering with the format, managed to see it. The Beeb really do excellent types of these programmes.
If anyone abroad wants the link, please contact me - alternatively if you can wait till I have the whole series downloaded and converted I can burn it to a DVD.

Re Michael's Great British Railway Journeys the series is being repeated on BBC1 Sunday Evenings at 10.25pm.

Apparently (according to BBC midlands today)there is a service that runs from Birmingham Moor St to Derby - how does this service get onto the ex Midland line without reversing?
