Melbourne Place, Rea Street South - Where was this?

Em1906

proper brummie kid
I'm looking to find out where Melbourne Place, Rea Street South was. Particularly house number 9. It was later called 9 back of 47 Rea Street South. Does anyone know where this would have been? I have an ancestor living there in 1921.

Here are 2 maps, your ancester probab;y lived in one of the courts on the 1889 map. If you can give us a full name we can probably work out which court.

It was John Harbidge and his wife Ellen Harbidge. They are listed as living in 9 Melbourne Place, Rea Street South in 1921 and then they lie at the same address (according to electoral registers) until 1929, the year of John's death.

Can't see it marked on the maps as such. It might be a case of seeing what numbers it is listed between and then trying to work it out.

Below is a map with Melbourne place in pink. The road going diagonally across at the top is Bradford street. Cannot say which house is no 9

Incorrect. Read address as Rea St, not the correct address Rea st south

The electoral rolls show Melbourne Place was after no 6 and immdiately followed by another court, Sydney Place. The 1950s mqp shows that no 29 is just before the position that these two courts are on the 1880s map

Incorrect. Shoild be Rea St south

On the 1891 census Melboune Place is listed between Sydney Place and a Brass Works and the a Soda Water Works. So I think it is listed as court no. 2 on this 1889 map. It also gas 12 houses which matches the map...

Mike I've rechecked the 1921 census for Rea Street South for the left hand side, the entries are:
Sheffield Works
23, 1bk 23, 25, Melbourne Place (10/9/8/8repeated/7/6/5/4/3/2/1)
47
Lydney Place (10 to 1)
53 (3 different census returns)
54
55 (2 returns)
56
Then the enumerator moved to 158 Barford Street

I may be a bit out with some of the numbers but fairly sure it's almost opposite the school
