Mclaren Patrick of Ladywood

the only McLarens I knew were of Scottish decent I went to school with Jimmy his nickname was PUDDY osler st 1958 62 we played for the school football team we were a very good side

Sadly, they don't seem to be the same Mclaren's, no Malcolm or Ian.

No they were all from N.Ireland They lived in Alexander St then Hereford House which was somewhere near the twin towers pub in Ladywood. Then in a house just off Springhill then St Marks Crescent. There was a Barry but none of the other names you mentioned.

sorry yes it was James but did think his middle name may have been Patrick might be wrong though, Also one of my sisters names was Mary Ester which l believe was after their mother so not sure if her middle name was Ester .

Ok this what I have...

James Diver married Mary Gallagher in Castlederg 6 May 1911. James' father was listed as James and Mary's as John.

Children...

Francis (Gallagher) b1908, Ellen b1912, Mary b1914, James b1915, Lily (Elizabeth) b1916 & Bridget b1920.

On the 1911 census Mary is living in Castlederg with her widowed mother, a brother and her son (Francis). James is also living in Castlederg, a boarder of Bridget Doherty.

Mary was born 23 Oct 1889 in Castlederg, listed as Mary Josephine. She was the daughter of John Gallagher and Ann McCanny. She had a sister Ellen b1885 d1901 and a brother John b1888.

John (snr) died in 1897 aged 45 and Ann died in 1921, Mary was the informant for her mother.

Thanks for the info They definately had a brother called Tommy his daughter/grand daughter was still living in Irvinestown in the 90,s they ran a guest house because my brother went over and met them.

Sadly, Irish records are not as comprehensive as English/Welsh records. They are not as easy to navigate either, so there may be others I haven't found as well as Thomas.

John Gallagher was listed as an army or infantry pensioner on his marriage, death and baptisms of his children.

Hi there
Thank you very much for the info on the Divers/Gallagher family. I only knew up to James & Mary so it was a big surprise especially as l was only mooching on the site to find out something else.
Even after seeing the McLaren name l would not have contacted you until l saw Bridgets name, so what a bonus as l only knew a little about the Divers (they pronounced it as Devers ) maybe because of the accents. It turns out my brother knew about the McCannys and has visited some graves while he was over there. We know even less about my dads side of the family (southern Irish) so this is great.
I managed to contact Linda last night she is Patricks youngest sister she told me Terry is still living in Manchester and there is a Jimmy somewhere.
I have a phone no if Lily would like to make contact, also Linda will let the rest of the clan know about this.
So how do l let her have the phone no without putting it out in the open on the site?

Old Trucker
l spoke to my cousin last night and she told me that there were two families called McLaren at that time living within streets of each other .
One family were Irish/Irish the others were Scots/Irish. I think this is where the confusion is arising from so don't worry about it.
Also sorry if l led you to believe that l came from Ladywood, l only know it because of the McLarens.
I grew up in Balsall Heath.

If you hover over Lily's name on the left of one of her messages a box will appear. One of the options at the bottom of this is Start Conversation. Click on that and any message you type will be between the two of you.

Have been looking at your Diver/Divers but I can't pin James (Lily & Bridget's dad) down. There are some other Divers in Irvinestown that could be relatives but I can't find the connection. There are a couple of newspaper reports that are probably about him but can't be certain.

For you dad's (I'm surmising James Joseph Foley) side, was he born 1923? If so then that doesn't help because Irish births only go up to 1921 so you would need something (parent or sibling) before that to go further. The only other thing I saw was a sad event mentioned in the newspapers in 1957.

Hi Thanks for this. Yes my dad was called James Joseph Foley, he was born on 01/07/23 in Yeoghal Co Cork.
All we know is that myself & my sisters may have been named after his sisters but not sure if this is true or not.
The event that happened in 1957 was my brother Jimmy getting killed by a car on Moseley Road. This was a year before l was born, but l do vaguely remember seeing a newspaper report about it.

Welcome to the forum Sinead.
Bridget campion had 4 sons mothers maiden names Divers, then from 1951 she had 2 sons including your dad and 4 daughters(we can't name them here as they are living persons ) but oddly they all had mother Davers.(perhaps because of accent)
In 1939 Bridget is in Sherlock street at the home of Terence Mcclaren and his wife Lily.nee Diver, b 1915 Bridgets sister
Bridget Divers b 23 Aug 1920 Cafe work
at the same address is John Divers b 1st oct 1916 Road labourer, perhaps a brother.

I know of Maureen and Patricia yes. Any others I never met them/maybe they had already passed away. I think some of the family ended up moving to Manchester, which is also why I maybe never knew of them. I believe the parents were born in Northern Ireland but again this isn’t confirmed information I have!
Hi Lily, I am Emma Mclaren I am Barry Mclaren’s granddaughter my dad (Rory) knows a lot more about the Mclaren side of the family and my brother Daniel has the middle name Patrick after your father
