Re: Samuel Mayfield and Mary Watts

Hi
i do beleive there was a mayfield whom used to run barges up and down the cuts of the midlands
carrying alsorts of goods way back in up at least to the fifties to my knowledge
they was from the wolverhampton i think ;or at least further on ; it was that area of north ;
may . Be connected or not connected but i thought goingback far in time theres a possiblitily they could be ancesters ;
it could have been osewstry or that way ; i supose they was in those days bargees people ;but they did have barges running up and down
i know because i spent a hell lot of time down the cannals most days of the week and week ends from gas street to west brom and yonder ;
astonian;

Re: Samuel Mayfield and Mary Watts

Hi thanks for replying, I have never heard of the Mayfields having barges, but what I do know is that one of the Mayfield played cricket for Worchester it might have been either William or Edwin but I dont know when, William that was born in 1842 was a policeman in Aston, and I know that a Mayfield had a theathre at the beginning of the 1900's I think it was James Harry Mayfield born 1891, then again this is only hearsay from the older members of my family, so maybe they did have barges
