Mary Street School Balsall Heath

Mary Street School, Balsall Heath - class photographs

I attended Mary Street School from 1954 to 1961. I have many memories of teachers and pupils but do not have any class/ group photos and cannot find any on websites, although there are some from earlier. I have a couple of individual photos of myself but no class photos, this might be due to these not being taken or that my single parent mother could not afford them. I have still got all my reports and certificates etc. from 54 to 61.

I would love to see any photos from this era and hear any memories.

It is strange that I have lived and worked most of my life in the Birmingham area and have only met one person from Mary Street since leaving Dennis Road school in 1966.
I was there at the same time as you, don't remember much about it, it was a long time ago, I lived in Sherborne Rd and went on to Hope Street School where I spent most of my time in the corridors and on the stairs trying to find which class I was supposed to be in.

Hi Gary, you are one of the few who were around at Mary Street at that time who have replied. Like most old folks (76 this year ) I remember the distant past better than recent events. I can recall many of the names of teachers and kids in my year and what they looked like but have no class photos as I said in my other post. I have met a few times over the years with one of the girls, who lived in Gosford Street same as me. My name was and still is Robert James and if my memory is working correctly your surname is possibly the same as a famous secret service agent. If so I remember you but not very clearly. I hope life has treated you well.
regards BobJ
