MARY ANN HILL BORN TIPTON 1876

I have an ancestor called Mary Ann Hill nee Downing born 27th February 1876 Tipton. I have found so much information about this lady from several sources. To get to the story, my mother and father took me to an address in Wolverhampton, don't know the address! When we were there it was explained to me ( I was very young) that my mothers Aunt Mary lived there and was dying. I never saw the lady. Now to the real story, I have been doing ancestry research for some years and know quite a bit about this lady. She married a Stephen Hill in St James Church Handsworth on 2nd July 1898.
They went off to Bridgend and subsequently came back several children later and Stephen and Mary living at different addresses in Station Road Handsworth. Mary Ann ended up at 46 Baker Street Lozells with her daughter Winifred Maud Boardman and her husband Thomas Boardman. The last electoral Register has Mary living there in 1957 and not the later Register in 1960. So Mary Ann died between 1957 and 1960 and I believe in Wolverhampton. I am unlikely to find her on electoral Registers for Wolverhampton and I have sent for death certificates for Mary and ended up with incorrect ones. The information I need to establish the correct certificate is the informant who is almost certain to be a relative but without buying more certificates how can I find out who that is. This is just in case someone has some idea how to accomplish this without buying loads more certificates.

Why do you think that she died between 1957 - 1960? Could she not have moved?

Steve.
She was definitely in Wolverhampton when she died. I remember it was a terraced house straight on to street and my age at the time corresponds with the assumption she died between those dates. I checked a couple of deaths same name in Birmingham but they came up as the wrong ladies. Very common name Mary Ann Hill.

Not easy. Questions would be...

Was anyone else at the address? Are sure she wasn't taken to hospital before she died? Have you checked newspapers? Did she have grandchildren?

There was someone else at the address but don't know who I didn't go into the back room where she was in bed and she was very poorly and it was the end for her. She wasn't going anywhere else. I haven't found any evidence of grandchildren. I don't know why she was in Wolverhampton but suspect she was with a relative for her final days. Her son in law died in Handsworth shortly after. Can't find anything in newspapers. There are two Mary Ann Hills who died in Wolverhampton in 1958 but not sure they are the correct as I said it's a very common name.

There doesn't seem to be that many deaths registered for a Mary A Hill in Wolverhampton of the correct age around that time. In fact just the one and the age would be out by a few years.

There are a few further afield - Rowley Regis, Stourbridge, Bham - but not that many.

Doesn't seem to be many grandchildren.

Guessing a bit - Elsie died young? 1 for Stephen. 0 for Winifred. 1 for Elizabeth. 0 for Norah. Can't be certain for Violet.

It always amazes me at responses from you people at BHF. It's wonderful. I joined BHF years ago and view it every day and it's brilliant and people are so helpful. I'm still no nearer the details of Mary Anns death but the grandchildren information gives me other avenues to explore. As an aside Winifred Maud Hill married a William Longman in 1941 and being a warden he was killed in a bombing that hit Rookery Road in 1942. She obviously married again to Thomas Boardman. Luckily he lived until about 1962.
Many Thanks

i have moved this to the surname interests of the forum and given it a new thread title
