Hi, I'm desperately seeking my gt-grandfather Edward Marshall born circa 1839. His parents were William Marshall, Gunmaker and Elizabeth Cade, they were married Oct 1836 St Mary's Handsworth. I have Edward on the 1841, aged 2 living at 38 Digby St, Handsworth. The family was still there when Edward's brother Samson was born in 1843. Edward also had an older brother Joseph born circa 1837. Anybody have any ideas where to go from here? I've applied for certs registered in Burton-upon-Trent and Tamworth and even tried a "male Marshall" in Aston. :( Thank you !

I think this is your family in 1851 living in Stepney. William is a gun maker. I also looked on the 1841 census and the family say they were born Birmingham not Handsworth.

Many thanks for the census info, this indeed is my family. I have been able to track them from 1841 in Birmingham to 1851 London. The family then splits and are dotted all around London. The main problem that I have is that there is no birth entry for my gt grandfather, Edward Marshall born c 1839. I have got a birth certificate for one of his younger brothers, Samson b. 1843 Birmingham. From the 1841 and this certificate, I know that the family were living at Digby St, St Mary's Handsworth. I understand Handsworth to be a suburb of Birmingham, certainly back in their time. I think the family must have followed their gun trade down to the Mile End/ Stepney area's of London/Middlesex. Once again thank you and If you do come across my elusive Edward I would be a very happy bunny indeed! :) Lorna
