Hi gwen
           i do not actualy recall the mannor house on aston cross at this precise time of day
            but i really think you mean in aston , and it was at the junction of
            wainwright st and porland street even thou its close to the cross its not the cross
           and i was born across the rd from it and lived across the rd from it
           in the early years its was known and called the mannor house , but abit later inthe late forty or the very early fifty they did change the name as they did with a couple of the other pubs around aston
       like the disputed widdows to he victoria hotel which was around the cornerfrom the mannor house
        the only thing that sperate them relly beween the e pubs was the gallaghers mens hair dressers
        and a hose trough w e used the old fashioned open cut razors for cutting your hair and shaveing
        ad my first visit was when i was five
        the mannor house was always packed with the buttons employers day every lunch time and always had a busy trade and in the summer nights people wold bring out the chairs and stools outside
        and there was an arccordian playing and i done my guy fawkes out side the bar door
        could always make a ten bob note at week ends during the week we got nought
        but most of all there was never any fights not like the golden cross where the dodds used to run it
        with there teddy boy nights and dancing up there stairsnor there was never any fights in or
         out of the widdows even the gun makers a little way away from the widdows never ever any drunkenrds or fighs
       have a nice day best wishes  Astonian ;;;
