Re: edward lutwyche

Karen, I also have a marriage certificate of my gt gt aunt. I know her father was John checked Parish registers etc, but on her marriage certificate her father is given as Thomas. I know her grandfather was Thomas but I have never solved why her father is given as Thomas I can only guess she may have fell out with her father or maybe she didn't realise it was wrong as she perhaps couldn't read and right. I think its one mystery which will never be solved.

Re: edward lutwyche

hi Wendy You could be right about the reading and writing thing because on the certifcate it's the mark of Edward and Jane so they could'nt read or write so maybe it's a mistake thanks...Karen

Re: edward lutwyche

Karen, on the baptism records Edward is the youngest of John and Esther Lutwyche children and on the 1841 census she is a widow with her children the youngest Edward 18 yrs old.

Just a thought but if his father died whilst he was a baby or before he was born he may not have known his name.In those days before birth certificates he would have had no documents , only an entry in the baptism register.

The simplest answer may be that his father was John William called William by his family.

Re: edward lutwyche

Hi.

Edward's older brother John is my 4th Great Grandfather.

Edward did have a brother called William born in 1813, 10 years his senior.

Edwards father John died in 1828, some 20 years before he married, Edward was only 5. So I'm presuming that William was the sort of father figure for Edward, so therefore his name ended up on his marriage certificate. But John is the father of Edward.

Re: edward lutwyche

I don't know if there is a connection but I took this at Key Hill Cemetery.

Re: edward lutwyche

Hey thanks for that pic :)

Yeah Thomas Charles is the brother of Edward, born 19 Jun 1823.

And he married Elizabeth Hinchley, hence his Thomas' wife on the gravestone

Re: edward lutwyche
